Day in the Life of a Housewife

I've been wanting to do a post like this for a while.  I love reading about other housewives daily lives...I don't really know why, I just find it interesting.  So anyway..here is an average day in my life. :)

5:00am- wake up with Hubby, brush my teeth, head to the kitchen where the coffee is waiting, I make
his coffee and mine, pack his lunch, get his clothes or whatever else he needs me to do

5:30am- Hubby leaves and I sit down to finish my coffee, I turn on the Golden Girls or the news,
I check email, facebook, sometimes I read...just whatever while I'm waking up.

6:30am- I take my dog for a walk.  She loves it and it gets us both some fresh air and exercise.  I
try to make it 30 minutes, in the winter, when the kids are in school and the weather is
cooler we'll go for 45 min to an hour.
<3 My sweet dog loves winter walks without snow! <3

7:30am- Shower- my hair is naturally curly so I can't use a hair dryer without major frizz!  I always
let my hair air dry, so I take advantage of that time to spend some time with God. :)

8:30am- I get my breakfast and start my daily cleaning.  (I will share my cleaning schedule in another
post) Get my laundry started, wipe down bathrooms, etc.  Usually takes about an hour.  At
this time I plan my dinner, too.  Pull out any meat to thaw, do any preparation..

9:30am- Once my daily cleaning is done, I'll get started on my weekly cleaning.  That is about an
               hour, too.

10:30am-When I've finished all my cleaning, sometimes I'll start an organizing project.  We have so
many clutter hot spots in this house that I could work on one or two every day.  Drives
                me crazy.

11:30/12- At this point I'm done with my cleaning for the day.  If I'm hungry, I'll get something to
eat.  Sometimes I'll meet my mom for lunch, or she'll come here.  If I'm not meeting
anyone for lunch I'll sit down for a bit and catch up on my dvr shows, read, check
                 facebook, email, etc.

1:00pm- This is when I'll do any errands that I need to run if I'm home for the day I'll work on my
blog, do some craft projects, online shopping, baking, run the kids around..

<3I like to schedule baking days with a good friend who is also a housewife.<3

3:30/4- I'll get dinner started.  Hubby gets home from work around 5pm and I like it to be ready
             shortly after he gets home.

(: She heard Hubby pull in and is greeting him at the window :)

5:30pm- We eat dinner and clean up

6:30/7- RELAX!  Hubby likes to crash on the couch and depending on what the kids are doing they
will watch tv with us, or we'll play a game.

8:30/9- Hubby and I head to bed.  I will read or play on my kindle until 10 or so.

That's about it.  A day in my life.  I like to see it all written out, it makes me feel really productive.
I hope you enjoyed it.  If you did, leave a comment..do you have a blog or vlog?  Did you share a day in your life?  Tell me about it?  Where can I find it?  I'd love to check it out. :)

Have a great day!

Have to share this!!

My youngest daughter is too cute.  When she woke up yesterday and saw my meal plan list hanging she thought it was there for her to choose what she would like.  This is what I found:

Isn't she the cutest??  I just love the way their minds work.

Anyway, that is all for today.  Just wanted to share this.  I hope everyone has a great day!  Day in the life tomorrow. :):)

Meal Plan Monday

Happy Monday!  This weekend flew by!  I cannot believe I'm already starting the week.  However, I do have my menu done and I will share it now. :)

Hubby has seen the menu and he likes the idea that it's posted in our house for everyone to see.  That way there isn't really any planning involved during the week..just pick one and cook it.  Easy peasy.

So, how was your weekend?  Ours was pretty laid back, but we had a good time.  Saturday was Hubbys birthday.  We slept in, watched movies all day (in between loads of laundry) and went out for dinner, drinks and music with my sister and bro in law.  We really enjoyed the bar/restaurant we went to to listen to music...La Cocina in Tucson.  The owner was in the dining room, helping seat people and checking on tables.  She was very friendly and welcoming.  We didn't have dinner there, but we're wanting to go back soon.  The dining room was outside in the courtyard, and there were twinkle lights everywhere.  There was also a little store that my sister and I checked out.  It was full of vintage treasures.  My favorite kind of place!

Sunday, of course, was Fathers Day.  Hubby had a slight headache (wink, wink) so he relaxed on the couch most of the day.  I brought him toast, Gatorade and ibuprofen as needed. haha  Family Day was at my sisters so we went over around 3.  Dinner was fantastic!!  She made a turkey breast in the slow cooker and it turned out perfect!  She also made roasted brussel sprouts and a squash casserole.  So yummy.  I took over a pineapple upside down cake that I made for Hubbys bday.  (We didn't really have time to eat it on his actual bday, so we celebrated on Sunday).  I was going to do a step by step in pictures of the cake process, but I kept forgetting to take pictures, so I'll share what I got. ;)

Ok...well now my computer isn't cooperating, so maybe the picture will be there, and maybe it won't.  (It's not there..so sorry.  I did post one of the pics on Instagram, you can check it out there!)  After dinner we came home and the girls gave Hubby the cards they made him..so cute.  I love that they still make him cards.  They also gave him his surprise!!  A new dad chair!!  To most people, it's just a recliner. To us, it's a dad chair!  And he gets to pick it out.  We'll go sometime this week to pick it out.  The only thing I'm insisting on is that it's big enough for 2, because we like to cuddle!  All of us like to cuddle with Hubby, so that is a priority.

Well, that's about it for our weekend.  I'd love to hear about yours, so leave a comment, or at least a link to your blog.  I love to meet new people. :)

Have a great week!

Meal Plan...Wednesday?

Obviously I missed Meal Plan Monday.  Whoops!  I had the meal plan in my head, I just didn't put it down on paper..or on computer. :)

So, meals for the week.  Since we're half way through the week, I'll back track, tell you what we've already eaten and then plans for the rest of the week.

On Monday, Hubby got take out.  He came home from work to a sick dog and had an icky mess to clean up..so he decided no cooking.  We got burritos from a local Mexican restaurant.  They were delicious, as they always are.

Yesterday, Hubby grilled pork chops.  They were pretty tasty.  I made hash browns and corn on the side.

Tonight, we're going to have grilled cheese with bacon and probably just chips on the side.  The high today is like 110, so our cooking days are probably numbered.  Too hot outside for Hubby to stand in front of the grill, and I don't want to heat up the inside with the oven.  Lots of salads and sandwiches in our future.

Meals for the rest of the week-

Smothered chicken

I guess that's about it.  haha Some meal plan!!  So glad I finally got that written down.

Friday we usually pick something up or cook a small meal just for Hubby and me, but this is his birthday weekend, plus Fathers Day.  He's been saying he'd like to go out and have some drinks and listen to a live band.  But I don't have many details on that.  I guess I need to talk to him about it and get plans figured out.

Usually on Fathers Day we grill steaks (and in our Pennsylvania days we'd have a bonfire, but it's too stinking hot for that here!!) and have other manly food.  Since it's Family Day and it's my sisters turn, I will have to talk to her and make it a joint effort.

So that's my meal plan...looks pretty sad now. lol  Thanks for reading if you even bothered.
I hope everyone has a great day!  I have been wanting to type up a Day in the Life post,  I will try to get that done this week.  If not, for sure next week.

Have a good one!

What a weekend! And I learned how to post pictures...woohoo!

I was so productive this weekend!  I didn't tackle everything on my to do list, but I did get to cross off a few of them, and it sure felt good to get things done.

On Saturday I went yard saleing (saleing?  is that a word) with my mom and sister.  We had a really good time!!  We left at 8am and got back around 10.  I got quite a few fun items and spent less than $20.  Can't beat that!

My yard sale purchases (minus a cowgirl hat for my daughter)- 2 pineapple wall hangings (I love to display pineapples in my home, they are a symbol of hospitality), 2 wrought iron decorative pieces, 4 books by Minda Webber, a picture frame and a pineapple shaped wooden bowl. LOVE!

After I got home, Hubby and I went to Costco.  We stocked up our freezer and pantry and we'll be good for another month or so.  I love shopping at Costco, but I hate actually being there.  Crowds give me anxiety and Costco crowds are the worst.  These people will clog the lanes with their carts and stand around the employee with the samples, making it impossible to get through.  Drives. Me. Insane.  Anyone else?

We spent the rest of the day hiding from the heat and I was working on laundry.

First thing Sunday morning, I was outside spray painting.  6:30 am and I was in my back yard working on one of my projects.  It gets so hot here that the only time I can really paint is first thing in the morning, or late in the evening.  I'm definitely a morning person, so that's when I work.  I've been wanting to get these cans painted for so long!  I was out of black paint and just couldn't remember to pick it up when I was out.  So glad it's finally done. :)

The rest of Sunday was  spent cleaning, doing laundry, cooking and playing referee to my cat and dog.  Our cat is a bully.  He will kick the dog out of her bed, which is pretty funny, but sad, too.  They finally ended up sharing. :)

And my clean kitchen!  It doesn't look as impressive without the before pictures...you'll have to check out my instagram for the befores. :)

I had mentioned before that Sunday is Family Day.  My mom and my sisters family come over for dinner (or we go to my sisters house).  This past Sunday was our turn to host and everyone came!!  I don't think we've had a Family Day or holiday when EVERYONE was here.  It was very nice. :):)  I ended up making tortellini and meatballs in vodka sauce.  It was so good!  Dessert was Chocolate Éclair Dessert...One of Hubbys favorites!

So that was my very successful weekend.  I'm sad it's over.  I can't wait to see what next weekend holds for us.  Hubbys birthday AND Fathers Day!  We'll be busy!

Have a great week!!

Finally Friday!!

I wait for this day all week long.  And unfortunately for me, it's my longest day of the week.  I really do like my job, but I am just exhausted.

Anyway...it's Friday!  Yay!  Plans for the weekend include..trips to Costco, Ace Hardware, Michaels and I'm hoping to talk my mom and sister into hitting some yard sales.  Also, I want to scrub this house from top to bottom.  It's pretty clean still, but if I keep up with it, it will stay lovely. :)

I want to put on my apron and whip up some cookies and other treats for my girls and Hubby.  They have really been helpful around here this summer.  And I miss my kitchen.  I used to spend hours in there playing with different recipes, trying new things and making endless treats.  Sigh..it's the little things, ya know?

Sunday is Family Day and it's our turn to host.  I'm not sure what we're having yet, but I'll let you know when I decide.  Hubby is on call this weekend so we're staying close to home.  And now that I think about it, that might change our plans to go to Costco.  The one close to our house is super busy.  It can turn into a 3 hour event, and I don't know if Hubby will want to be away that long.  We'll see.  We might just head to Safeway or Sprouts.

I will be working on crafts this weekend.  I have a bunch of ideas and I don't want to lose them.  Some will depend on what I find at the yard sales, but I do have things I can work on here.

I'd really like to take the girls somewhere fun, but with Hubby staying close to home, that's not happening.  We'll shoot for next weekend and maybe make a trip to Mt. Lemmon.  We were there last for Mothers Day and the girls wanted to go back right away.  It's a nice place to get away from the desert heat and only about an hours drive.  But really spectacular views of Tucson.

So that's about it for me.  Shopping, cleaning, homemaking...the life of a wife and mom.  I wouldn't want it any other way.  I can't wait to spend some time in my kitchen baking up some love for my family.

Hump Day! :)

Happy Hump Day!  I hope your week is going well.  Mine is going pretty good.  My house is basically clean, not too much extra stress.  I haven't spent any time working on crafts, but hopefully this weekend I'll get to Michaels and Ace Hardware.

I've already strayed from my meal plan.  Monday we ate at the food trucks, as planned.  I had a shredded chicken sandwich and it was delicious!  My youngest daughter ordered mac and cheese as her meal and she didn't like it, but I thought it was wonderful!!  Hubby got a bbq beef sandwich (I think), cole slaw and mac & cheese.  Everything was amazing!  I think this will be a regular monthly thing for us. :)

Yesterday, I had planned to pull out baby back ribs to get them started in the crock pot, then Hubby would grill them when he got home from work.  I forgot to get them started.  Ugh.  So Hubby went to the store to pick up tortillas and we had tacos for dinner.  Taco Tuesday?  Works for me. :)

That's basically my week.  Hubby is on call this week, so we're staying close to home.  Pretty boring around here.  I feel like I get these good ideas to start blogging and then I start typing it up and it's so boring.  I can't imagine who would want to read this.  But I'll keep plugging along.  Maybe I'll get interesting.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Meal Plan Monday

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  I ended up not getting my organizing done.  But I did get to hang out with my hubby a lot, and I will choose that over cleaning and organizing any day! :)  I even took nap on Sunday..that is a huge deal for me.  I never nap.  I feel like it's such a waste of the day.  But now that I think about it, I took a nap last Sunday, too!  haha

So, Meal Plan Monday.  I don't do a typical meal plan.  I don't assign a certain meal to a certain day.  On Mondays, I plan what we're having for the week, and decide the night before what we'll be having from the list.  Not really a huge meal plan, but it works well for me.

Tonight is Food Truck Round Up in my community, so we're going to go there for dinner.  So excited, we've never been and Hubby has always wanted to go.  So here is my meal plan for the week-

Monday-Food Truck Round Up
Baby Back Ribs, mashed potatoes, mushrooms
Chicken kabobs (with mushrooms, onions & peppers), mac & cheese
Pork Steaks, rice, corn
Friday- Date Night!  (maybe fish tacos)
Saturday- homemade pizza

Every Friday my mom takes the girls out for dinner and swimming..or whatever else they decide to do, so Hubby and I get to have a night to ourselves.  We usually go out to eat and run errands (so exciting), but since we're eating out tonight, I was thinking fish tacos sounded good.  And the girls won't eat them, so it's perfect.

Well, that's our week, food wise.  Lunches will probably be leftovers for Hubby and me.  I don't like to buy convenience food, but for the summer we've stocked up on corn dogs and bagel bites for the kids.  They can make those things themselves, they like it, and kids this age want to eat constantly.  We do have other food in the house for snacking, but as far as lunches...this is what's working for now.

So I guess that's it for Monday morning.  Don't forget to check out my Instagram, there is a link on the side bar.  Have a great week!

TGIF!

It's Friday!  Woo hoo!!!  What does Friday mean to you?  To me, it's the end of my work week..but also the beginning of my work weekend.  I am fortunate to have weekends off, but as a homemaker, I still have my house to tend to.  And my work schedule doesn't really give me much free time to do house work during the week, so I will be "working" the weekends for the foreseeable future. ;)

So..plans for the weekend...laundry, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, laundry, relax...and of course, more laundry.  When I wasn't working, I would do all of the bed linens on Monday and Friday, towels on Tuesday and Saturday, and one load of clothes every day of the week.  Now, I'm changing sheets once a week and towels as needed.  Clothes I wash as needed (right now I have a small load of clothes in the washer because I need a couple of items for work today).  I really need to sit down and write out a schedule, but I feel like we're still adjusting to my work schedule.  Really, I'm probably the only one struggling to adjust to my work schedule.

I also have some major organization projects to work on.  Mostly my bedroom!  Am I the only one whose bedroom turns into a dumping spot?  If someone is dropping by unexpectedly and there is a pile of anything in the living room/kitchen/dining room, it ends up in my bedroom.  It drives me crazy, yet I continue to do it.  So this weekend I'm taking my bedroom back.  It's a huge, gorgeous master bedroom and I need to treat it better.  Maybe I'll work on some crafty decorating projects to make it special for my hubby and me. :)

Besides housework, this weekend I'm hoping to work on some crafts.  I've always hoped to start an etsy shop or at least set up a booth at a craft fair.  Here in my town there are several places where I could set up a booth, but before I do that I need to have some inventory.  I have some things planned out and I really hope to get some of them done this weekend.  I'd like to spend the next year planning and crafting and really dedicating some time to this little shop of mine, and be ready to go full swing sometime in Spring 2016.

Next weekend I'm hoping to plan something fun to do with the girls.  They have been super patient this summer while dealing with my new work schedule.  My oldest is helping out by staying home with my youngest daughter and they are both doing chores around the house.  Of course they are being compensated, but it's definitely a load off of my back, knowing I don't have to run home and start doing all the things I used to do daily.

Well, I've yammered on.  I do have to get ready for work, and figure out a plan for the weekend regarding chores, organizing and crafting.   I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Oh!  And check out my new Instagram page... _housewifery_  I don't have any pictures posted yet, but I'll put some up this weekend, maybe a before and after of my organization.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

It's been a really long time since I've posted!  I recently started working and it's really cutting into my time at home.  My house is a wreck, my kids are bored and I miss my simple life.  Don't get me wrong, I really like my new job.  I love what I do, my co workers are awesome and I work for a great company.  But I feel like something is....missing.  Or maybe it's that I'm zooming through my week in anticipation of the weekend.  Then the weekend comes and I'm so busy playing catch up, trying to spend time with my kids and hubby, and the next thing I know it's Monday.

I've always been a firm believer that women CAN'T have it all.  We can't give 100% to our marriage, our children, our homes and our careers.  Something has to give.  Right now, I don't know what's giving in my household.  I know that me working is taking a lot of pressure off of my husband.  I know that my kids wish I was home with them...but when I was home with them, they were always wondering when I would get a job. haha  Cant please everyone, I guess.  My house is no where near as clean as I'd like it.  We're having take out at least 3 times a week and we don't sit together at the dinner table every night like we used to.

Yesterday, I saw my kids for less than an hour, total.  I came home from work and they were ready to go to their friends houses to spend the night.

Maybe I'm not trying hard enough?  Maybe there is a middle ground that I'm not finding?  Maybe this isn't the right job for me?  Maybe I need to do a little thinking and soul searching?

If nothing else, I got this off of my chest.  I feel a little better.  But now, it's time for me to walk past the mountain of laundry, the piles of clutter and a couple dust bunnies to my bedroom so I can get ready for work.
